...so why aren't we in sunny florida..... hearing the surf.... smelling the salty air....

...feeling the constant wind on our faces...eating fresh seafood!

instead, i am just playing around with my new camera and some coral i found on a visit to key west years ago....

i actually beat the birds up this morning! and now i am heading for the porch with a cup of coffee to watch the sun come up! hope everyone has a fab day!!!

luna moth

this beautiful luna moth (i believe it to be a male) is on the side of our garage door today - it is hard to believe that his life as a moth is only about 5 days - spent most of his time as a caterpillar. truly amazing!

the dogwoods are blooming!

...finally here! tonight at about 7:30 is the official beginning of spring! and it was such a lovely day yesterday, the girls and i spent the whole afternoon out in the yard playing and picking up sweetgum cones! hope everyone enjoys this beautiful sunday!

in high cotton...

This is a pic of my little nephew in a cotton field in the south - my mom picked cotton on my grandparent's farm when she was young and got paid 5 cent a sack. She is quite a lady and knows the value of a dollar. I learned a lot of my resourcefulness from my upbringing and I am glad that I had the opportunity to spend all those summers on the farm!!

Double Rainbow

What is better than seeing a rainbow? A double rainbow....if you look really closely over to the left of the photo, you will see another rainbow above the vibrant one! I've only ever seen a double one a few times in my life and was so happy to be on my porch when this one appeared!

My friend Debbie must have more than just a green thumb - she grows the most gorgeous flowers. I am so jealous. I kind of went overboard with her pictures, but it was hard to get it down to just a few! Hope you enjoy these lovelies...

Spring is Near!

Spring is coming to North Georgia! Yesterday I noticed my dafodils are about 4 inches out of the ground and there was a flock of robins in my yard when I got home, busy pecking the ground looking for a snack. The first thing I heard when I got up this morning was the Eastern Phoebe cheeping, so I hurried to the window and peeked out the blinds. There he was, in the corner eave of my side porch. They mud a nest to the wall there every year and usually have two nests full of babies. It won't be long! Can hardly wait!

It was like being in a snowglobe yesterday with the snow falling lightly, but steadily, all day long. Everything is covered in white and just beautiful! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

A Vision of Spring....

These little twin fawns were born last year. Their mom got run over by a car when they were all three crossing the road in our neighborhood. It was horrible and the little things - they were not much bigger than dogs when it happened - just stuck around and we all left out food for them and watched after them as best we could. It was so neat watching them all summer in our yard eating acorns and going up and down the sidewalks together. They have since lost their spots, are much bigger and stay in the woods mostly. Looking at pictures of them remind me that I can hang on a bit more for warmer weather and the smell of cut grass. I am so tired of winter and I know those of you that are up north are really tired of it - I am longing for green grass and flowers and fresh lemonade on the porch and bbqs and these pictures remind me that Spring will be here before we know it...

Yes, They Are Spider Lilies and there are more...

Seems that they are spider lilies indeed. They originate in Japan and some Middle Eastern countries. Guess that is why they are drought friendly. I linked the photos to their web source. There are just so many pretty ones...
