Nanny, my grandmother on my mom's side, loved flowers and gardening. I spent many a hot summer day working along side her picking peas. She was the type to have a bushel of them picked, washed and blanched and ready for the freezer by lunchtime, or dinnertime, as we call it down south. Summers spent on the farm were very memorable - eating the wonderful fresh veggies and working in the dirt! There was no need for a sleep aid - I went to bed tired and sunburned and slept like a rock!
Nanny died in a house fire years ago, so we do not have many of her things to remember her by, but we have some of her flowers. My mom dug the bulbs for me and I planted them at the office last year. Well, to my surprise yesterday, I looked out the window and they had bloomed. I am so excited, they are so beautiful and are a special reminder of a wonderful grandmother who taught me so much! Hope you enjoy the pics...

Vintage China as Wall Decor
I love vintage china, it is like a special treasure when I find a special plate, lid, cup or saucer. I picked up 8 lids from compotes, servers and sugar dishes in an antique store a couple years ago, thinking I would use them as a wall grouping at the cottage. The painting on these pieces is just beautiful and I love the gold accents - very shabby chic...

Vintage Calendars
Butterfly backed with Blue Ticking
Remember the linen calendars that had a rod pocket on the top with a dowel through it and a string to hang it on the back of your pantry door. I had one in the late 1970s, it is long gone now. But I found some on etsy, just the picture part, not the calendar part. I repurposed them into large lavender sachets. I love the thick nubby linen and they smell wonderful...

The Dogwoods of Maybelle...
I love turning onto Maybelle Street on my way into work in the Spring. It is lined with white and pink dogwood trees. The neighborhood was built after WWII and is filled with quaint little houses. I bought one there when I opened my practice several years ago and had a ball rehabbing it into an office. Sitting atop my office on the second floor is the Catnap Cottage. I am not a very good photographer, I just could not get the pictures to look like what I was seeing with my eyes, but I think you will enjoy them anyway! Thanks for stopping by!

Breakfast is Ready!
What....two posts from me in one day?? Had to share some breakfast with you. Buttermilk Hotcakes with Bacon. I start with SR Flour and add a couple of eggs and plenty of buttermilk and stir until mixed and slightly lumpy. I don't measure, that takes all the fun out of it! Cooking them in my cast iron skillet with lots of real butter makes them nicely browned and moist on the inside! Pass the syrup!
1973 - Hiphuggers, Halter Tops and Hair
I actually had this pattern and made that halter top!
love the dresses and the polka dot scarves - look at those white gloves
ok - my hair looked just like this
one "token" woman who keeps having to proove herself
standard shag haircut - knit sport coat with wide lapel and this guy has a "me tarzan, you jane" attitude
I was 13 in 1973 and was all about what to listen to and what to wear. I remember wearing hiphuggers, halter tops and clogs and listening to WALG (an a.m. pop station) late into the night. There is a new show out, or maybe not so new, but I just found it, called "Life on Mars". It is about a guy who gets thrown back in time to 1973 and is a police officer in New York City. Everything is right out of 1973, the clothing, cars, attitudes, hair, music - it is fabulous! As we used to say - it's a trip! Here are a few pics from the ABC show...
