Blue Boy

Look What I found today! A paint-by-number Blue Boy and he is huge - 30" tall x 21" wide. The frame is black and is a little chippy - which just makes it more scrumptious! Did you know that Blue Boy and Pinkie were painted by different painters about 25 years apart? I found some info here.

This Blue Boy was framed with a few nails in the back - the way they used to do it before Hobby Lobby. And there is a string for hanging. I am just in love with him - he is so gorgeous, so well done! I have never seen a paint-by-number this big. Can you tell I am excited?? LOL!!

I purchased him to put in my shop, but am having a BIG problem with that right now. My grandmother on my dad's side died back in 1984 and apparently she loved Blue Boy and Pinkie too - I have her ceramic figures that she painted on my dresser. They are so sweet and I can just imagine her painting them, she was not crafty or artsy, I think she did it for therapy. Papa ran a Real Estate Office and sold insurance and she was just the lady of the house all day, playing bridge and hanging out having tea with her girlfriends. I have her scrapbook too. Pictures of her in flapper dresses and being silly with my soon-to-be Papa. Calling cards, dance cards and valentines and greeting cards with all her notes. I will have to share that one day too! So, what do you think about my handsome Blue Boy??

That is an AWESOME paint-by-number! I have always loved those 2 (probably because my Gramma and Papa had them, too!)

Blue Boy and Pinkie Hang in the Huntington Library (last I saw them at least)in Pasadena California. They are fun to see close up and the Library is very pretty and has stunning gardens. We have a painting of the Japanese garden that my Mother In Law painted as a memorial to our time in Southern California. I think I like the paint by numbers better.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I called Hobby Lobby today and since he does not need glass, they will finish him up on the back for about $3 - so as soon as this rain stops. He and I are taking a little ride to HL. I am keeping him for sure! I wish y'all could see him in person, I just cannot really capture the beauty and quality of the painting. My paint by numbers would look like a first grader did them. I may have to try my hand at one if I can find an old one! And, yes, Barb, I will share the scrapbook before Christmas, I promise ♥♥♥ Thanks ladies for coming by and commenting!!

Oh you definately have to hang onto Blue Boy! He's just too wonderful! I wonder if Gainsborough ever thought his painting would be a paint by number someday! It's a gem of a find!

I just found one in a thrift shop in Australia. I'm so in love with it. It's become the centrepiece of my bedroom. :)

Who knew Paint-by-Numbers could be so magnificent?! :P
