Studio Makeover - Yeah!

Well, I guess you cannot really call it a makeover when you have never really had an "official" place to craft. I am so excited. I have been to the paint store two days in a row and am going back for more samples tomorrow - looking for just the right blue. My ideas...

My inspiration for color - vintage crewel work. Made this pillow a couple weeks ago for my family room - I just adore the blue colors - been carrying it around with me trying to match it.

My aunt left me two Rembrandt etchings when she died and they are framed in beautiful silver foil-like frames. They look fabulous on blue!

This is the craft center from Pottery Barn. Mine will be very similar to this and will be painted an antique white. There are, count them, 18 cubbies for stuff - yippee! I am so tired of my stuff being in piles!!

Here is the desk - I may change the knobs, haven't decided. It will have 6 drawers! Yeah!! I am going to use my vintage sewing chair. It is really cool and has just the right support and the seat comes off so that you can store thread in it. Will paint it the antique white and cover it with one of my favorite barkcloth fabrics!

This will be the top of the bookshelf - it will sit on a cabinet with doors, kind of like a hutch. Also, painted the antique white!

So you kind of have an idea and I am sure things will change - the big part is finding the right blue. Hope I find it tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by!!

Hubby found this little guy - or girl - outside our door. He is so tiny - an inch long at the most. He is some sort of rain frog, I think. Too cute!

I'm Not Plump, I'm Fluffy!

I have a coffee cup that states this and has an extra "fluffy" white cat on it - I have enjoyed it for years. When I got this pillow finished and the feather/down insert in it, that little saying went through my head!! This pillow can't deny it - she is plump and fluffy!! LOL!! Crafted with vintage Cabin Crafts White Squiggle Chenille that came from a bedspread that I could not save. Super white and soft and ready to take her place in just about any setting. Another product of crafting therapy!

The Potter and the Clay

I have never thrown a pot, but have been told, one has to use just the right amount of pressure of his or her hands and a good speed on the turning wheel to get the perfect pot. Not enough pressure and the vessel does not reach its full potential and too much pressure and the clay ends up caved in and even splattered on the wall. I am feeling like clay today, glad I am in the hands of the Master Potter!!

Vintage Cotton Ticking


Remember the old feather pillows made from heavy cotton ticking - I managed to snag a few pieces a few weeks ago thinking I would use it to back some pillows. I use ticking a lot, but new ticking. Once I received it and soaked and laundered it, I knew it needed to be a pillow all by itself - I just love it! I have one on my leather sofa mixed up with barkcloth and European grainsack pillows. I have enough for a few more, please see my shop if you are interested. There is just something about ticking and chenille fabrics and the "tick-tock" of an old clock, oh, add a humming fan, and you have a setting for a nice nap!! A Blast from the Past...

...I had a flashback when I saw this spread - it is so mod and retro. The colors and style tell me it is probably from the 1970s. I love the avocado green and the chenille tufted daisies all over the top. It is in fabulous condition and waiting for some lucky girl! It is full size and is listed in my shop.

Fireworks on the Porch

I sat on the porch yesterday and had a glass of wine. It has been really hot here, but my trusty roadside-find fan kept me cool. After I had a nice soak in the tub and put on my pjs last night, we started hearing pops and booms. We hurried to the porch and took our seat for the most fabulous fireworks show I have seen in years. To our surprise, some of the neighborhood put on quite a show and right in the field across from our house. I did not even think about taking pictures, I was afraid I would miss something if I moved. What a treat! Hope y'all had a fabulous fourth!!

Hubby found this fan on the side of the road - it just needed a gasket! I love the look of it and man does it blow!

What is Independence...


...the right to go to the beach, drink beer, eat hotdogs and have fireworks?? That is one result of it, but independence is more than that. This definition sums it up well....the state or quality of being independent; freedom from dependence; exemption from reliance on, or control by, others; self-subsistence or maintenance; direction of one's own affairs without interference.

I am saddened and concerned about the path our nation is taking - just kind of holding my breath and hoping for reprieve. It is amazing that 600+ elected officials can do what they are doing to millions of citizens and we elected them. As we prepare to celebrate our 233rd birthday, I have been reading some old quotes and writings of some of our founding fathers. A lot of sacrifice and spilled blood was given so that their children's children's children, etc. (we) could have liberty, freedom and independence. It seems that, collectively, we just want what we want now and the heck with anyone else, our children's children included. We have become complacent. And have you noticed that it is always someone else's fault and that the lack of accountability runs rampant. Our forefathers were patriots! Are we patriots? What is an American Patriot... one who loves and defends his or her country and Constitution and the rights of others! Not him or herself?? hmmm... Our forefathers said it best...
